Best boots I’ve ever road marched in,
I got these boots when I hit Bragg last February. My unit road marches about 8 miles on average every week and I wasn’t too happy with my issue boots. I went to General Jacksons, tried on a few pairs and liked the way these Wellco boots felt so I bought them. That afternoon I went for a 3 miler to break them in and they were so awesome I didn’t even get a hot spot! This is just unheard of for new boots. Not a single blister, even on the 20+ mile road marches which really surprised me.
I should add briefly that I’ve been in since 1976 and have done more than a couple of road marches in my time.
These are a lightweight boot with tremendous support to weight ratio. I highly recommend them for road marches especially. I just bought another pair and am going to go with these exclusively.

|comfortable boots!,
I got these boots a week ago and they are already my favorites. There is good cushioning in the heel while walking and they are very comfortable. The old Herman Survivors feel like lead weights on my feet compared to these Wellcos. I’m definitely satisfied with the product.

|Comfortable and stable fit, sturdy construction,
I’ve owned many Wellco boots over the years but this is only my second pair of ‘new style’ desert/warm weather boots. Old style military/duty boots tend to have little to no ankle support while the new generation of tactical boots feature padded shafts and tongues reinforced with plastic, rubber, or webbing. I bought these Wellco X-4orce boots after buying the Wellco Spartan boots, another new tactical model. (See my review of the Spartans under that product page.)
I have a wide foot and my 12-wide boots fit very comfortably. They are wide at the forefoot where I need the width but the heel area holds my heel without being too tight. I have a big ‘knuckle’ on the big toe of my right foot and some boots are uncomfortable across the top surface of my right foot, at least until they break in. These X-4orce boots are comfortable across the top of my foot even when laced firmly. The shaft is comfortably padded, the tread seems to be just grippy enough to give me good traction off-road without feeling slippery or overly grippy on concrete or carpet. The insole is cushioned but firm and these boots feel like a broken-in pair of sneakers.
If I had to choose, I would probably choose the X-4orce over the Spartan because the X-4orce seems to be more comfortable out of the box, but the Spartans are certainly a well-made model of boot. NOTE: The Spartans have vented air/drainage holes at the instep and the X-4orce do not. I live in a very dry climate with temperate weather most of the year so I can wear either three seasons but if drainage hole are important to you, you will not find any on the X-4orce.
